Airports have become potentially hazardous areas in the wake of COVID-19. Thousands of passengers moving uncoordinated among each other in a rush of feet, bags and frequent flyers.
One area where the risk is high is the boarding process, where passengers are lining up to enter the plane. First in and fast to the seat seems to be the goal. Here the risk of contamination is mainly caused by counter-flows of passengers, especially inside the plane if a sequential filling of the plane from the bottom up is not followed.
To help ameliorate this situation Triagonal developed the graphics for an orderly, sequential boarding for CPH Airport based on a concept by iNudgeyou. The system immediately appears simple and intuitive, which makes it an effective tool for controlling the passenger flows and avoid congestion. The solution was designed before COVID-19, but has become even more relevant and may be more detailed for a precise boarding in the future. Based on our extensive knowledge of human behaviour we have devised a COVID-19 package where we assess and recommend solutions for how to adapt environments to COVID-19 related challenges and similar challenges in the future.
